Vietnam promotes rule of law, multilateralism, says Prime Minister

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said on Saturday that Vietnam’s proud achievements are promoting the rule of law and multilateral behavior based on international law, creating a favorable environment for development, and elevating the country’s position in the international arena.

Mr. Chinh made the statement at a conference reviewing Vietnam’s 2-year non-permanent membership of the United Nations Security Council for the 2020-2021 term in Hanoi on Saturday.

“Efforts should be made to make effective use of the country’s position and prestige, continue promoting and deepening bilateral relations with other countries and international organizations, make the most of opportunities to promote economic, trade, investment, science and technology cooperation with other countries, especially world powers in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic and beyond,” he said.

“External affairs should be carried out on the basis of “emotion, sincerity, trust, equality, respect, listening, cooperation, efficiency and mutual development”, creating a basis for taking advantage of international resources and contributing to realizing national aspiration for sustainable development,” according to Prime Minister Chinh.

Over the past two years, Vietnam has worked with other countries at the UN Security Council and achieved goals set in its tenure, receiving international acclaim.
