Vietnam, US strengthen bilateral ties via education cooperation

Minister of the Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son has called on the US Embassy in Vietnam to work on the signing a Memorandum of Understanding on developing and improving higher education institutions in Vietnam.

At a Wednesday reception in Hanoi for US Ambassador to Vietnam Marc E. Knapper, Son affirmed a special relationship between Vietnam and the US, including cooperation in education.

He said he hopes the US Embassy will help develop Fulbright University Vietnam, implement joint training programs, improve English teaching in Vietnam, and establish working groups of scientists from the two countries.

Ambassador Knapper said considerable achievements in education cooperation demonstrate the success of bilateral relations.

He said he’ll make an effort to increase the number of Vietnamese students studying in the US, especially in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, and promote cooperation between Vietnam’s Ministry of Education and Training and private partners in the US.
