7th package of EU sanctions against Russia comes into force

The 7th package of EU sanctions against Russia became effective on Thursday. The sanctions include clarifications on restrictions on financial operations by Russia and Russian companies and a ban on gold purchases from Russia in the form of semi-finished products and scrap. The black list also includes 48 more Russian individuals and organizations. The EU will freeze the assets of Sberbank, Russia’s largest bank.

The EU says these sanctions do not prevent countries and their citizens doing business outside the EU from buying pharmaceuticals or medical products from Russia.

The EU also allows parties to provide technical assistance to Russia in the field of aviation and technology.
