Australian Prime Minister Morrison calls May election

Australia will hold a general election on May 21, Prime Minister Scott Morrison said on Sunday.

Morrison said that only by voting for the Liberals and Nationals at this election can people ensure a strong economy for a stronger future.

The opposition Labor party says it would offer a “better future” for the Australian people than the Morrison’s coalition.

In a series of recent opinion polls, Australia’s ruling Liberal-National Party is currently lagging behind the opposition Labor party, even though Morrison said his government had saved thousands of lives with its tough COVID-19 curbs and spurred a rapid pandemic recovery to bring unemployment down to 4%.
