Biden calls for gun control after Raleigh mass shooting

US President Joe Biden spoke in support of gun control legislation on Friday in response to Thursday’s shooting in Raleigh, North Carolina, that left five dead.

This year, and even in just the five months since the shootings in Buffalo and Uvalde, there are too many mass shootings across America, including ones that don’t even make the national news, Biden said.

He said that for the lives we’ve lost and the lives we can save, the administration took historic action to stop gun violence in the US, including signing the most significant gun safety law in nearly 30 years. But they should do more, Biden said.

In July the US House of Representatives passed a bill on banning the sale, manufacture, transfer or importation of semi-automatic assault weapons. However, the bill is unlikely to be passed because Senate Republicans have expressed near-unanimous opposition to it.
