Brexit hurts EU-UK trade

Brexit hurt two-way trade between the EU and Britain, with the auto, textile, and aviation sectors taking the worst hit, the French Ministry of the Economy and Finance said Thursday.

The Ministry released data on the sidelines of an EU ministers meeting in Paris to review the fallout from Britain’s departure from the bloc a year ago.

EU exports to Britain fell 15% while EU imports from Britain fell 30% in the first 10 months of last year. The COVID-19 pandemic added to the negative effect on bilateral trade. But the EU’s trade overall rose during the reviewed period, according to data from the Eurostat agency.
