Cooperatives always accompany their members

Over the past time, cooperatives in Long An province have made efforts to realize the “dual goal” of focusing on preventing and controlling the Covid-19 epidemic, while promoting production and trade, and actively supporting their members in the production and consumption of agricultural products. Thereby, they contribute to creating jobs, ensuring social security and restructuring the economy.

New cooperatives are supported to establish

In 2021, in general difficult conditions due to the complicated development of the Covid-19 epidemic, the Provincial Cooperative Alliance always strives to implement the Program to support the development of collective economy and cooperatives in the period of 2021 – 2025, the Project “Select, complete and replicate an effective new model of cooperatives in localities across the country in the period of 2021-2025” under the direction of the Provincial People’s Committee and implement policies to support linkages in production and consumption of agricultural products in the province.

Accordingly, the Provincial Cooperative Union actively advises and supports the establishment of new cooperatives. By the end of October 2021, the province has 10 newly established cooperatives, bringing the total number of cooperatives to 271 with 42,402 members; the total charter capital is nearly 377.9 billion VND, the total operating capital is nearly 2,842 billion VND. At the same time, the province supports the cooperative to complete legal documents according to the Law on Cooperatives 2012, specifically such as application to join cooperative, certificate of capital contribution, application to leave cooperative, charter, plan, list of members, cooperative operation regulations, cooperative financial regulations, member registration book, list of cooperative members, so on.

Capital support has also been enhanced to help cooperatives overcome difficulties in complicated epidemic conditions. Particularly in October 2021, the Provincial Cooperative Alliance appraised and disbursed 4 loan projects from the Cooperative Development Support Fund with the capital of 4 billion VND for the Chan Phong Chicken Breed Conservation and Development Cooperative, the Binh Phat Environmental Service Cooperative, Huu Tien Production Cooperative, Thien Long Transport Cooperative.

Vice Chairman of the Provincial Cooperative Alliance – Nguyen Hoang Huy said: “The Provincial Cooperative Alliance actively promotes the propaganda of the  Law on Cooperatives 2012, policies to support cooperatives for localities and strengthens coordination between sectors, the locality organizes to advise and support the establishment of new cooperatives in order to achieve the set targets. At the same time, it coordinates with the People’s Committees of districts, town and city to review and strengthen weak cooperatives, dissolve cooperatives that have stopped operating; survey and grasp the operation situation and strengthen and build agricultural cooperatives, hi-tech agricultural production pilot cooperatives in the province; support product consumption for cooperative members; etc.”.

Solid “support” for members

Since the beginning of 2021 until now, due to the prolonged Covid-19 epidemic, the production and trade of many cooperatives have been limited or stopped due to a lack of production sources. However, by being flexible, the cooperatives have shared, becoming a solid “support” to help members overcome difficulties.

At the online conference summarizing the 20 years of implementation of Resolution No. 13-NQ/TW, on March 18, 2002, the 5th Conference, the IXth Party Central Committee on continuing to innovate, develop and improve the efficiency of the collective economy, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee – Nguyen Minh Lam highly appreciated the role of the collective economy and cooperatives in recent years, especially during the time of complicated developments of the Covid-19 epidemic, the province must practice social distancing to prevent and control the epidemic. Cooperatives play a good role in accompanying and supporting the consumption of products for their members.

Cooperatives play a good role in accompanying and supporting the consumption of products for their members.

In order to help farmers transport and purchase agricultural products as well as support investment capital in production, many cooperatives and cooperative groups have accompanied farmers to support and act as a bridge to consume and purchase agricultural products. Thereby, they contribute to solving difficulties for producers and creating capital to reinvest in production.

Director of the Muoi Hai Safe Vegetable Cooperative – Le Van Giay said: “Currently, the cooperative has 30 members, with a total area of 30 hectares of vegetables in a clean and safe direction. With special characteristics of leafy vegetables, the cooperative averagely harvests about 10 tons of vegetables every day, so it is difficult to preserve for a long time after harvesting. During the time of implementing social distancing, the transportation and circulation of goods faced many difficulties.

In order to maintain the activities of its members and ensure product output, the cooperative tries to support farmers to consume agricultural products with higher purchasing prices than traders from 1,000 – 2,000 VND per kilo. Up to now, 100 percent of the harvested leaf vegetable production has been consumed, no backlog of agricultural products.”

In fact, many farmers are excited when the cooperative accompanies and supports consumption in the difficult situation of agricultural output due to the impact of the current epidemic. With the effort to find outputs to purchase agricultural products for members of the cooperatives, cooperatives have timely shared difficulties, helping members stabilize production.

In the context of the complicated development of the Covid-19 epidemic, the effective promotion and role of cooperatives became a solid “support” to help members overcome difficult times and stabilize production. Thereby, they contribute to raising people’s income, bringing high economic efficiency in agricultural and rural areas./.
