EU delegation’s fact-finding tour of Thanh Hoa

Representatives of the European Union (EU) and partners in Vietnam made a fact-finding tour of Thanh Hoa province on Tuesday to learn more about the work of the Vietnam Women’s Union (VWU) and local women’s needs.

Participants touched upon the role of women in gender equality and economic development in line with Vietnam’s sustainable development, and discussed opportunities, challenges, measures, and skills to help women fully tap their potential and strengths.

Bulgarian Ambassador Marinela Petkova praised Vietnam’s efforts to promote gender equality and women’s strengths. She said she will join hands with the VWU to prevent domestic violence and promote gender equality, and said she believes the Vietnamese Government will further empower women so they can contribute more to national development.

Jesus Lavina, deputy head of the development cooperation division of the EU delegation, said the fact-finding trip gave him a better understanding of women’s contributions to poverty reduction and environmental protection.

The EU delegation pledged to coordinate with Vietnam to carry out the three priorities of their cooperation framework: climate change adaptation, the digital economy, and green transition.
