Floods kill 10 people in central region

Floods in the Central and Central Highlands region have killed 10 people, inundated about 60,000 houses, and forced over 6,000 households to evacuate by Wednesday morning.

The National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control also reported that several areas along national highways and rural transport systems were flooded or blocked by landslides.

On Tuesday evening, provinces from Quang Nam to Ninh Thuan saw less rainfall. Floods on rivers reached Alert Level 3 and are receding.

A low pressure and a cold front moving northward caused heavy rains in the Central, South-Central and Central Highlands provinces, which led to severe floods. The local authorities have mobilized forces to quickly help people resolve the aftermath of rains and floods and clear traffic routes.
