FM meets Speaker of New Zealand’s House of Representatives

Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son on Wednesday paid a courtesy visit to Speaker of New Zealand’s House of Representatives Adrian Rurawhe as part of his official visit to New Zealand and co-chairing the first Vietnam-New Zealand Foreign Ministers Meeting. At the meeting, FM Son suggested the government and House of Representatives of New Zealand create conditions for the Vietnamese community to stably live in and integrate into the host country’s society and make it easy for Vietnamese students to study there as the COVID-19 pandemic subsides.

The two sides should further promote people-to-people exchange and tourism cooperation by soon resuming direct flights between the two countries, he said.

Rurawhe said the parliament of New Zealand treasures the relationship with Vietnam and will actively push ministries, sectors and localities to expand cooperation with Vietnam.

He praised the Vietnamese community and said he hopes that more Vietnamese students would come to study in New Zealand.

Discussing regional and global cooperation, both men stressed the need to maintain cooperation and coordination at multilateral mechanisms such as ASEAN, APEC, and UN, contributing to peace, stability, cooperation and development on the basis of respect for international law and the UN Charter.
