Hanoi delegation pays tribute to victimcs of US bombing on Kham Thien Street

 On December 26, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the victory “Hanoi – Dien Bien Phu in the air” (December 1972 – December 2022), Politburo member, Secretary of the Hanoi Party Committee Dinh Tien Dung and representatives of the City Party Committee, People’s Council, People’s Committee, Vietnam Fatherland Front – Hanoi laid wreaths and offered incense at the monument for victims of the bombing on Kham Thien Street.  At the monument, the Hanoi delegation spent a minute of silence to commemorate the people killed by B-52 bombs in December 1972.

Kham Thien Street has a length of 1,170m with 26 alleys. Fifty years ago, at 22:45, on the night of December 26, 1972, Kham Thien street was carpet-bombed by US imperial aircraft, leading to the death and injury of 557 innocent people, 534 houses being destroyed and 1,200 others damaged.

In total, the strategic air raid of the US imperialists mobilized more than 663 tactical aircraft and dropped more than 100,000 tons of bombs of all kinds.

During 12 days and nights of resilient fighting, Hanoi’s army and people together with the Vietnamese army and people achieved the victory “Hanoi – Dien Bien Phu in the air”.

It was the culmination of the will, bravery and intelligence of the Vietnamese people, contributing to the great victory in the spring of 1975, liberating the South and reunifying the country.

Celebrating the 50th anniversary of the victory “Hanoi – Dien Bien Phu in the air” is an occasion to review the traditions of the Armed Forces and the people of the capital in the history of the struggle for national liberation, serving as the motivation for everyone to join hand in building the capital more beautiful and prosperous as President Ho Chi Minh has said.
