Ahead of the 93rd anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of Vietnam (February 3, 1930 – February 3, 2023) and the 2023 Lunar New Year, on January 16, at Street December 19, Hoan Kiem District People’s Committee in collaboration with Hanoi Department of Information and Communications held the opening ceremony of the spring book street 2023. This is one of the meaningful events jointly held by the People’s Committee of Hoan Kiem District and the Hanoi Department of Information and Communications to honor and promote the reading culture in the public, at the same time creating a fun and exciting space for entertainment and cultural activities for people during Tet.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Vice Chairman of Hoan Kiem District People’s Committee Nguyen Quoc Hoan emphasized that the spring book street 2023 with the theme “Breeding knowledge – Blooming spring” is the starting event of reading culture of Hanoi in 2023.
In order to create new experiences for readers, the Organizing Committee has carried out a variety of activities imbued with the cultural space of reading and activities to celebrate the Lunar New Year.
This is the second year the spring book street is held throughout the Lunar New Year, taking place in 2 weeks, from January 16 to January 29.
With the desire to become a meaningful event to serve the people, the organizing committee has decorated the welcome gate, stages, and many miniatures, trees, antique pavilions, with the theme of the Tet in Hanoi. In addition, publishing units and bookstores are also organizing many activities and interactive events with readers.
Compared to normal days, Hanoi Book Street has added many book stalls and entertainment areas, so that visitors could come and read books, take pictures or join many fun activities.
With the characteristic of being a space of knowledge on spring days, the 2023 spirng book street makes readers excited for the a variety of activities, including music and dance programs; performing traditional and modern art forms such as ca tru, xam singing, van singing, cheo, folk songs, traditional art concerts, dance groups festivals; children’s fashion show, among others.
Throughout the spring book street, there are activities to introduce the art of calligraphy and Tet couplets; color pictures for children; a drawing contest; Hang Trong folk paintings exhintion; chess competition; among others.
As a unit actively participating in activities at Hanoi Book Street and spring book street for many years, Chairman of the Board of Directors cum General Director of Thai Ha Books Joint Stock Company (Thai Ha Books) Nguyen Manh Hung affirmed: “This year’s spring book street is beautifully decorated, imbued with Hanoi’s culture and where meaningful activities are held. This space is open throughout Tet, attracting not only young readers, young people but also the elderly, not only Hanoians but also readers from many other provinces and cities. For publishers, spring book street is a place for us to meet and thank our readers, give lucky money, free books, and exchange and cooperate with our colleagues to carry out book-related activities during the year.”
Thai Ha Books has prepared to increase the number of books compared to normal days, most of which are new books. In addition, the unit also organized promotional activities for buying books, giving gifts, lucky money, free books and implementing “Book Street Library” at the booth.
Similarly, Vietnam Women’s Publishing House, Kim Dong Publishing House and many other units have also prepared new sets of books, and beautifully decorated bookstores for visitors. Many books such as “True Tet”, “Dong Xuan Princess”, “Flying in the middle of the flower season” received reader’s interest.
