Hanoi promotes people-to-people diplomacy with Turkey, Greece, and UAE

Under the work program for 2022 of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Hanoi and the Plan No. 74-KH/TU dated May 6, 2022 of the Hanoi Party Committee on foreign activities of Hanoi in 2022, from October 16-26, a delegation of the Standing Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee in Hanoi  led by the  Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee in Hanoi Nguyen Lan Huong  visited Greece, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates (UAE).  During the working program in Turkey, on October 18, the delegation visited and worked with the Honorary Consular Office of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam in Istanbul and met with the Vietnamese community there.

Huong informed Ali Tezolmez, Honorary Consul of Vietnam in Istanbul and the participants about the socio-economic development of Hanoi. The two sides exchanged some ideas on activities to strengthen the relationship between Vietnam – Turkey such as: Promoting twinning activities between Hanoi and a number of Turkish cities; In 2023, celebrating the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, holding the Turkish Fashion, Culture and Tourism Week  in Vietnam; enhancing student exchange between universities of Hanoi and Istanbul.

The delegation met with the Vietnamese community in Turkey who were very touched when they received the delegation and expressed their joy for the development of Hanoi in particular and the country in general. After this meeting, the Vietnamese community in Turkey decided to establish the Vietnamese Association in Turkey.

After finishing the working program in Turkey, the Delegation went to Greece. On October 19, the delegation   paid tribute to Hero of the People’s Armed Forces Nguyen Van Lap (Kontas Sarantidis) – the only foreigner awarded the title Hero of the People’s Armed Forces by the State and Government of Vietnam.

Welcoming the delegation were his wife, children and grandchildren. Huong expressed gratitude to the Greek soldier who contributed to the righteous struggle for national liberation, creating a bridge of friendship between the two countries.

The family of Hero of the People’s Armed Forces Nguyen Van Lap expressed their appreciation when the delegation visited and presented them gifts, especially the picture of Sword Lake – the heart of Hanoi.

Also in Greece, the delegation worked with the World Peace Council. Welcoming the delegation were Thanasis Pafilis, Secretary General of the World Peace Council and leaders of the Greek Peace Committee. At the meeting, the two sides agreed to strengthen connection, cooperation, exchange and experience sharing between the World Peace Council, the Hanoi Union of Friendship Organizations and the City Peace Committee in activities of peace, solidarity and friendship.

The Vietnam Peace Committee is implementing the project “Peace Education”. This is a very meaningful activity to raise awareness of all classes of people, especially the young generation about peace, and the Vietnamese people’s tradition of peace loving; so that each person can take concrete and practical actions to contribute to the cause of consolidating and preserving peace.

The last stop in the delegation’s work program is the United Arab Emirates (UAE). On October 25, the delegation visited and worked with the Dubai Foundation for Women and Children. Welcoming the delegation were Saikha Saeed Al Mansouri, Acting General Director of the Fund as well as the Board of Directors of the Fund.

At the meeting, the Hanoi delegation wished to learn about the activities of the Dubai Foundation for Women and Children, exchange and share experiences in activities for women and children, especially promote gender equality, prevent and respond to violence against women and children. The Foundation’s vision is “A society without violence against women and children in Dubai” which is also what Hanoi has made efforts to implement. Huong said for Hanoi city, its  leaders are determined to build a civilized, modern, green, clean, beautiful, secure and safe Hanoi. It has issued an action plan for gender equality to 2030, and a project on preventing and responding to violence and abuse of women and children in the period 2022-2026. The Party, government, departments, branches, mass organizations of the City, and press agencies are all responsible for coordinating to ensure the safety of women and children.
