Hanoi strengthens trade connection with localities

The Steering Committee for Farm Produce Market Development – Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development and the capital city of Hanoi jointly organized an online forum on October 23 on connecting supply and demand of agricultural, forestry and fishery products between Hanoi and other localities. The forum attracted the participation of 40 provinces and cities across the country.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Tran Thanh Nam and Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Nguyen Manh Quyen co-chaired the event.

The forum aims to support localities, businesses, cooperatives and farmers in the production, consumption, and commercial promotion of agro-forestry-fishery goods to meet the needs of local consumers and for export in the next period.

It is expected to promote development of the supply chains, increase the value of agricultural products as well as income of farmers.

The forum is also a chance to enhance trade links for the production and consumption of farm produce  between Hanoi and provinces and cities.

In his opening speech, Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Nguyen Manh Quyen said that the capital city only produces and meets 30-65% of demand for agricultural products, so the city wishes to cooperate with other provinces and cities to promote the supply of those products in the coming time.

Hanoi will hold trade promotion programs and events to advertise safe agricultural products as the city implements measures to ensure safe and flexible adaptation to the COVID-19 pandemic, he added.

Tran Thi Phuong Lan, Acting Director of the municipal Department, said that prices of some essential commodities, such as pork, poultry, and seafood are currently declining sharply, so people are not interested in  livestock repopulation. Therefore, the Hanoi Department of Industry and Trade forecast a shortage in the supply of these products, particularly for the upcoming Lunar New Year.

Hanoi wishes Departments of Agriculture and Rural Development of other provinces and cities to coordinate with the capital city in rolling out a plan to meet the demand for the upcoming Lunar New Year and to introduce qualified producers to distribute their products in the city, she stated.

“Hanoi is also willing to join hands with localities to connect agricultural products with foreign supermarket chains such as MM Mega Market, BigC, and Aeon Mall. At the same time, the city will help them introduce safe agricultural products and food on 600 e-commerce platforms to boost exports,” said Lan.

At the forum, the representatives from provinces and cities proposed the organization of activities to promote the consumption of local agricultural products in the Hanoi market.

Concluding the event, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Tran Thanh Nam said, through eight editions, the forum has  strengthened  its role in connecting agricultural trade links among provinces and cities nationwide.

He underlined the necessity for Hanoi to enhance trade links for the production and consumption of farm produce with provinces and cities, especially in the high shopping seasons like the end of the year and the Lunar New Year.

Also at the forum, there was a signing ceremony of the cooperation program “Ensuring food safety, improving the quality of agro-forestry-fishery goods between Hanoi and other localities in the 2021-25 period”.
