Hanoi’s 10th Sports Games set to launch in October

On July 28, Vice Chairman of Hanoi People’s Committee Chu Xuan Dung, Head of the Organizing Committee of the 10th Capital Sports Games, chaired the meeting of the Committee.  

Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports Pham Xuan Tai said that up to now,  536 out of 579 units at commune, ward and township levels have finished organizing their respective Sports Games with a total of nearly 500,000 participants, reaching 92% of the plan.

It is expected that the district level   sports games will be completed in the third quarter of 2022. The sports games of branches, unions and associations will be completed by the end of September 2022, and the 10th Capital Sports Games in 2022 at the City level will be held on October 9, 2022.

According to the plan, the 10th Capital Sports Games will feature 25 sports for the following categories: teenagers, public employees, armed forces, and the elderly.

Meanwhile, the Ninth National Sports Games in 2022 is expected to take place from mid-November 2022. The Games will feature 42 sports whose competitions will be held  in 11 provinces and cities, of which Quang Ninh is the main host. Hanoi is expected to host 7 sports: men’s futsal football, wrestling, judo, billiards & snooker, petanque, kurash, and bowling.

The Hanoi Sports Delegation to attend the 9th National Sports Games  is expected to comprise 1,500 people, including 271 coaches, 1,109 athletes and experts. The Hanoi sports delegation strives to achieve 135-140 Gold medals, 80 Silver medals, 81 Bronze medals, and be in  the top spot among localities.

The opening ceremony of Hanoi’s Sports Games is set to take place on on October 9, at the indoor Palace of Athletics (Tran Huu Duc Street, Cau Dien Ward, Nam Tu Liem District, Hanoi). The closing ceremony would be held on October 28, 2022.

Speaking at the meeting, Vice Chairman of the City People’s Committee Chu Xuan Dung highly appreciated the initiative of the units in organizing the grassroots sports games. He assigned the Department of Culture and Sports to review the guiding documents to create unformity in the preparation process, along with creating festive atmosphere in the localities. He suggested localities to ensure the organization of their respective sports games according to the schedule and plan.

Dung also called for relevant agencies to create conditions for Hanoi’s athletes to train in South Korean in  such sports as archery, shooting, sailing, international swordsmanship, gymnastics, Taekwondo, among others; and sports such as: Shooting, patenque, kick boxing, Muay Thai, in Thailand. He suggested to the organizing board to organize the opening ceremony of the 10th Capital Sports Games on Friday, October 7, instead of Sunday, October 9 (as originally planned).
