IAEA Director General to visit Zaporizhzia nuclear power plant

The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Grossi said on Sunday that he is preparing to go to Russia and Ukraine to discuss the security of the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant. Grossi told French broadcaster BFM that targeted strikes at Zaporizhzhia have created a very serious situation. He again appealed to Russia and Ukraine to agree to set up a  safety zone around the plant.

According to Grossi, if possible,  IAEA experts will visit the Zaporizhzia nuclear power plant on Monday to assess the damage cause by the latest shelling. He also called for an immediate end to these “concerning” actions.

Zaporizhzhia, the largest nuclear power plant in Europe, is located in the city of Enerhodar, in Zaporizhzhia province, Ukraine. Recently, there have been many attacks near the plant, and Russia and Ukraine have accused each other of shelling the plant.
