President Nguyen Xuan Phuc on Saturday urged the northern province of Lai Chau to focus resources on economic development, especially agriculture, forestry and tourism.

During his working session with the provincial leaders, the president called for assurance of social welfare, educational development, sustainable poverty reduction and fostering a borderline of peace and stability while improving ethnic people’s living standards.

He hailed the provincial strategic position in social economy, national defense and security, border security, energy security and ecosystem environment.

Earlier on Friday, the President attended a local ginseng festival. He emphasized on the importance of the preservation of local ginseng generic source and encouraged international cooperation in planting and processing.
