Minister urges land reserve for socio-economic development

Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Tran Hong Ha on Friday presented to the National Assembly a proposal on national land use planning from 2021 to 2030 with a vision to 2050.

According to the report, land planning aims to rationally allocate land to sectors and localities in accordance with the requirements of socio-economic development, infrastructure development, industrialization, and urbanization.

Minister Ha stressed the need to preserve 3.5 million hectares of rice land and a ensure stable forest coverage at 42-43%. The national plan on land use for infrastructure development by 2030 is 1.75 million hectares, an increase of more than 400 thousand hectares compared to 2020. To meet the need of urbanization rate of over 50%, the urban land use plan by 2030 will be 2.95 million hectares, an increase of nearly 930 thousand hectares compared to the present.

The report proposes six solutions, including fine-tuning policy of regulating land revenues in order to distribute them reasonably to create equal development resources, creating favorable conditions for land users to change their land use purpose to implement investment projects according to the planning, accelerating digital transformation, building and operating a unified and centralized land information system and database, and applying remote sensing technology and GIS in monitoring the implementation of plans.
