Overseas Vietnamese join “Homeland Spring 2023”

On January 14, at the National Convention Center, the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs coordinated with the People’s Committee of Hanoi to organize the “Homeland Spring 2023” with the theme “Country of Beliefs and Aspirations”.

Attending the program were State President Nguyen Xuan Phuc, together with leaders of ministries, branches and localities and more than 1,000 overseas Vietnamese returning home to celebrate the Lunar New Year.

“Homeland Spring” is an annual activity for overseas Vietnamese to enjoy Tet in Vietnam; at the same time, showing the Party and State’s concern for the overseas Vietnamese community, encouraging overseas Vietnamese to preserve the identity and traditions of the nation.

This is a large-scale event, which attracts the participation of a large number of expatriates from all over the world who return to their homeland to celebrate Tet, and includes many significant activities: incense offering ceremony, fish release according to traditional rituals; visit to Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, memorial ceremony for Heroes and Martyrs; meeting with senior leaders of the Party, State and Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front; Vietnamese food festival program and art exchange at the National Convention Center.

Speaking at the program, State President Nguyen Xuan Phuc, on behalf of Party, State and Fatherland Front leaders, welcomed overseas Vietnamese returning to their homeland to celebrate Tet. The State President also expressed his affection to overseas Vietnamese who did not have the opportunity to return to their homeland to celebrate Tet on this occasion.

Informing the expatriates about the country’s difficulties and achievements in 2022, the State President emphasized that in this challenging context, the contribution of the expatriates both materially and spirituality is an important resource for development. At the same time, Phuc affirmed that the Party and State’s interest in the overseas Vietnamese community is transparent, always creating favorable conditions and supporting the compatriots to stabilize their lives and work to integrate into the social life of the host country, and at the same time, maintain close relations with the homeland. Many overseas Vietnamese have become big investors in Vietnam.

In his speech, the State President emphasized the aspiration of the country to become a powerful country, and at the same time, hoped that the overseas Vietnamese would continue to make an important contribution to the overall development achievements of the country. .

After the speech, the State President beat the drum to inaugurate the “Homeland Spring 2023” festival. The special art program “Fatherland Spring 2023” was broadcast live on VTV1 and VTV4 channels for compatriots across the country and overseas Vietnamese.

The delegates paid tribute to the ancestors who sacrificed their lives to preserve and protect the nation, and prayed for the nation’s peace and prosperity.

After that, President Nguyen Xuan Phuc and his wife, Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Tran Sy Thanh and overseas Vietnamese performed the carp release ceremony at Lotus Pond, the vestige of an ancient river in the Thang Long Imperial Citadel.

* On the afternoon of January 14, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh met with overseas Vietnamese attending the “Homeland Spring 2023”. Also present were Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son; Minister, Chairman of the Government Office Tran Van Son; representatives of central ministries, departments and branches; Especially, there were nearly 130 overseas Vietnamese who are intellectuals and businessmen from 30 countries and territories around the world.

Speaking at the meeting, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh informed overseas Vietnamese about the country’s development situation. The Prime Minister thanked the effective, emotional and responsible contributions of more than 5.3 million overseas Vietnamese, making an important contribution to the country’s development in recent years.
