President arrives in Geneva, beginning official visit to Switzerland

President Nguyen Xuan Phuc arrived in Geneva on Friday, beginning an official visit to Switzerland. This is Mr. Phuc’s first visit to Europe as President of Vietnam. The visit is of great importance as the two countries are celebrating the 50th anniversary of their diplomatic ties. It demonstrates the close traditional friendship between the two countries and paves the way for stronger bilateral cooperation.

During the visit, President Phuc will hold talks with his Swiss counterpart Guy Parmelin and meet with President of the Swiss National Council Andreas Aebi to discuss ways to boost their partnership and strengthen cooperation in all fields.

In Geneva, the President is expected to meet with Director General of the United Nations Office in Geneva, Tatiana Valovaya; Director General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus; and Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), Daren Tang.

One of the highlights of the visit will be the Business Summit co-chaired by the Presidents of Vietnam and Switzerland and attended by business leaders and major economic groups.

The two Presidents will witness the signing of a number of Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between businesses of the two countries.
