A ceremony was held in Kien Giang province on Friday to commence construction of President Ho Chi Minh statue and the central square at the heart of Phu Quoc city. The sculptural art work depicts the great leader and national hero with his right hand placed on his heart denoting his strong affection for the southerners as he once said “The south is forever in my heart”.

The temple of heroic martyrs was inaugurated in Phu Quoc city after the groundbreaking ceremony.

Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam said, “This temple infuses the unity and combined strength for all Vietnamese people to surmount all the difficulties to defend Vietnam’s sea and island sovereignty and territorial integrity.”

Over 3,000 revolutionists and patriots killed by the enemy during Vietnam’s resistance wars are resting in peace in Phu Quoc.
