Rocket attack targets US base in northern Iraq’s Erbil airport

At least 3 rockets have hit the Erbil International Airport in northern Iraq, where US forces are stationed, security sources from the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) said Saturday. No human casualties have been reported and the facility was not damaged, said Ahmed Hochiar, director of Erbil airport.

Erbil Airport is also home to a military base of the US-led international coalition fighting Islamic jihadists in the region.

These attacks, often targeting US interests in Iraq, have occurred quite frequently in recent months. A few weeks earlier, three drones attacked the airport in Baghdad, where US troops are stationed. US officials have accused Iran-backed Shi’ite Muslim militias of carrying out rocket and drone attacks on US troops in Iraq.
