UK newspaper: Covid-19 cannot stop Vietnam’s economy

The Economist.com website recently commented that integration with global manufacturing has kept Vietnam’s economy humming during the pandemic.

The article said that, despite a new more severe outbreak of COVID-19, Vietnam could see faster growth this year. The World Bank’s latest forecasts anticipate growth of 4.8% in 2021.

According to the article, Vietnam’s openness to trade and investment has made it an important link in supply chains. That, in turn, has powered a remarkable and lengthy expansion. Vietnam has been one of the five fastest-growing countries in the world over the past 30 years, said the article, adding that its record has been characterised, not by the fits and starts of many other frontier markets, but by steady growth.

According to The Economist, it’s hard not to be rosy about a country that appears to be in the early stages of an East Asian economic miracle.
