UN meets over Haiti crisis following killing of President Moise

The UN Security Council is holding an emergency closed meeting to discuss the crisis in Haiti following the murder Wednesday of President Jovenel Moise. According to Helen Meagher La Lime, Special Representative for the UN Secretary General, Prime Minister Claude Joseph has taken charge and declared a 15-day “state of siege” in order to effect the capture of the perpetrators.

Ms. La Lime said Haiti has asked the United Nations for assistance with security and the UN is taking the request seriously and seeking clarification of what is needed. The UN Unified Office in Haiti is capable of supporting the investigation, and will call for more international help if necessary, she said.
