WHO warns half of Europe population could be infected by COVID in next 2 months

314 million COVID-19 infections and 5.5 million deaths had been confirmed worldwide as of Wednesday noon, according to worldometer.info. 2.5 million new cases and 7,300 new fatalities were reported in the past 24 hours. The most new cases were reported in France, followed by the US and Italy. The US remains the hardest-hit country by COVID-19, followed by India and Brazil.

Infections are skyrocketing in Europe. Over 50% of Europe’s population could be infected with Omicron in the next two months given the current infection rate, the World Health Organization warned on Tuesday, when 26 European countries were seeing at least 1% of their population contract the coronavirus every week.
