World’s oldest person celebrates her 119th birthday

Kane Tanaka, the world’s oldest person, on Sunday celebrated her 119th birthday with friends in a nursing home in Fukuoka Prefecture, southern Japan. Tanaka was born on January 2, 1903 as the 7th child in a family of nine children. She lived through five political periods in Japan: the Meiji, Taisho, Showa, Heisei and now Reiwa.

She was recognized by Guinness World Records as the world’s oldest living person in March 2019 at the age of 116. Although her health has declined this year, Tanaka is still able to communicate through gestures with the nursing home staff.
