Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong on Thursday chaired a meeting of key national leaders to discuss domestic and international situations in the first two months of this year and sketch out major tasks in the time to come.

President Nguyen Xuan Phuc, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, National Assembly Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue, and Standing member of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat Vo Van Thuong attended the meeting.

Addressing the event, the Party leader praised sectors and agencies for their efforts to accomplish assigned tasks saying the results were thank to solidarity and consensus of the whole political system, the Party, army and people.

He recognised the efforts of the key national leaders in giving comprehensive directions in all aspects such as economic development, COVID-19 response, defence, security, Party building, and anti-corruption

Regarding future tasks, the Party leader asked sectors and localities to work closely and promptly address pending problems.

The Party leader underlined that it is necessary to keep a close watch on the situation and make accurate forecast, so as to work out proper policies to effectively deal with arising issues.

Alongside, it is crucial to effectively implement all solutions included in the socio-economic recovery and development programme, while focusing efforts on removing bottlenecks in institution and policy, flexibly managing and coordinating monetary, fiscal and macro-economic policies to reign in inflation and ensure major balances of the economy, and speeding up the disbursement of public investment capital.

 Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and the Politburo focused their discussion on socio-economic development and national defense and security of the Mekong Delta and the fight against corruption and wastefulness during a meeting in Hanoi on Friday. Reviewing the implementation of the Resolution on directions, tasks and solutions to socio-economic development and national defense and security in the Mekong Delta in the 2001-2020 period, Party General Secretary Trong said the Politburo Resolution must show the ideological and guiding orientations, undertakings and policies without going into details. He stressed the need to issue a resolution that affirms the role, position, and importance of the Mekong Delta.

Reviewing the five-year implementation of the Politburo’s conclusion on strengthening the Party’s leadership in the fight against corruption and wastefulness, Mr. Trong emphasized that the work has recently been carried out more aggressively, fighting not only corruption but also negativity with a focus on the degradation of political ideology, morality and lifestyle.

– Translating and publishing books and donating books to Cuba topped the agenda of Thursday’s meeting between representatives of Vietnam’s National Political Publishing House and the Cuban Embassy in Hanoi. 

The meeting was attended by Deputy Director and Deputy Editor-in-Chief of the publishing house Nguyen Hoai Anh, and Cuban Ambassador to Vietnam Giormis Goméz Guillén, together with some delegates from both sides.

They also discussed measures to promote friendship and mutual understanding between the 2 countries.

Ms. Anh said the National Political Publishing House has released some books on Cuba and Cuban leaders and said she hopes that the meeting will help popularize political and theoretical books in Vietnam and Cuba.

Ambassador Guillén promised to work as a bridge to help the National Political Publishing House enhance cooperation with Cuban publishing agencies.

On this occasion, Ms. Anh presented Ambassador Guillén several publications in Spanish including the 2-volume book “Firmly on the path of Renewal” by Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, and the novel “A War Account 1-2-3-4.75” by veteran journalist Tran Mai Hanh.

As the 13th National Women’s Congress closed on Friday, it elected 155 people to the Central Committee of the Vietnam Women’s Union and re-elected Ha Thi Nga as Chairwoman of the Union and four others as vice presidents.

The Congress approved its Resolution aiming to promote tradition, solidarity, creativity, proactive integration, and a sense of mastery among women, build a strong organization, actively build the Party and the political system, and protect the legitimate rights and interests of women.

According to the Resolution, by 2030, the 100th anniversary of the Vietnam Women’s Union, the organization strives to affirm itself as a pioneer organization acting for women’s happiness, having regional and global influence, and contributing to achieving national development goals.

 Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on Thursday held a reception for outgoing Canadian Ambassador Deborah Paul, during which he lauded the diplomat’s contributions to the comprehensive partnership between the two countries. 

The PM noted that in 2021, trade between Vietnam and Canada topped 6 billion USD, up 19%.

Mr. Chinh thanked the Government and people of Canada for providing Vietnam with COVID-19 vaccines through the COVAX Facility, helping Vietnam safely and flexibly adapt to and effectively control the pandemic so it can confidently open its doors and boost socio-economic recovery and development. PM Chinh urged continued cooperation in trade and investment, pandemic and climate change response, green, sustainable growth, and human resources training.

Ambassador Paul spoke highly of Vietnam’s commitments at COP26 and said the Canadian Government will continue to assist Vietnam in pandemic and climate change response, farm exports, and poverty reduction.
