Ban flower festival enlivens northern mountain city

A festival honoring Ban (Bauhinia) flowers, a typical spring flower in Vietnam’s northern mountain region, opened on Sunday in Dien Bien province, after a two-year COVID-19 hiatus. The opening ceremony, an extravaganza of art, music, and lighting, held in Dien Bien Phu city, is expected to be a magnet for tourists to Dien Bien province.

The Dien Bien Phu Victory Museum is hosting an exhibition, marking the beginning of the Dien Bien Phu campaign 68 years ago, which led to a decisive victory for the Vietnamese military to end the French colonialism in Vietnam.

It is displaying 110 poems and photos featuring the life and career of General Vo Nguyen Giap, Commander-in-Chief of the Dien Bien Phu Campaign, and remembering his enormous contributions to Vietnam’s struggle for national independence.

The exhibition will run until April 25.
