Hanoi holds activities to celebrate 200 years of Son Tay Ancient Citadel (1822 – 2022)

 

Towards the 200th anniversary of Son Tay Ancient Citadel (1822 – 2022), the Town Party Committee and People’s Committee have been implementing many activities to honor, introduce and promote outstanding architectural and art values of the historic Citadel.  According to Vice Chairman of Son Tay Town People’s Committee Le Dai Thang, in the days leading to the anniversary, the town will organize cultural, sports and tourist activities such as: a display of pictures  introducing artifacts found in Son Tay Ancient Citadel; ornamental creatures exhibition, display of  antiquities in the Citadel, calligraphy, literary performances. It will coordinate with the Hanoi Department of Tourism, the City’s Trade and Tourism Investment Promotion Center to organize tourism promotion activities in the area.

Besides, the town will also organize tour for students to study and visit the relics of Son Tay Ancient Citadel in order to educate the young generation; invite musicians to compose  about the Citadel, Son Tay Town; hold cultural, artistic, physical training and sports activities in the pedestrian street; coordinate with relevant units to organize the international hot air balloon festival in the town center.

“Especially in this November, a major political and cultural event of the town creates a premise to promote economic and tourism investment, and attract investors to Son Tay. The celebration will be held from 19:00 on November 12, 2022 (Saturday) at Son Tay Ancient Citadel with the participation of many delegates, guests and famous singers and artists”, said Vice Chairman of Son Tay Town People’s Committee.

Through the 200th anniversary celebration  of Son Tay Citadel, it is expected to raise the awareness and deep responsibility of today’s generation for the cultural heritage left by their ancestors; honor, introduce and promote the unique and typical cultural values ​​of the ancient citadel and the potentials of Son Tay Town to domestic and international friends; attracting tourists from all over the world to Son Tay, contributing to investment and construction of the town’s economic, cultural and social development.

According to scientific researchers, historians and cultural researchers, Son Tay Citadel, one of the “Four towns” protecting the ancient Thang Long citadel, is the only laterite citadel in Vietnam built in 1822 during the reign of King Minh Mang.

Over 200 years, up to now, Son Tay Citadel still retains many values ​​of culture, history, architecture, military, science of a national relic. Conservation and effective promotion of the Citadel relic will contribute to affirming the typical position, role and value of this work in history, and at the same time arouse the potential of Thang Long – Ha Noi cultural tourism development.
