Hanoi leaders meet representatives of press agencies

On January 4, the Hanoi Party Committee, the People’s Council, the People’s Committee, the municipal Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee  held a meeting with representatives of the central and Hanoi press agencies ahead of the Lunar New Year 2023.

In 2022, despite the difficult global situation, the Party Committee, the Government and the People of Hanoi have made great efforts to overcome challenges and successfully completed all political tasks, including all 22 socio-economic development targets, of which 5   exceeded the plan.

Hanoi’s gross regional domestic product (GRDP) growth increased by 8.89% year on year (surpassing the plan of 7-7.5% and higher than the growth rate of 8.02% of the whole country); total state budget revenue reached VND332 trillion (reaching 106.6% of the year’s estimate and increasing by 2.5% compared to 2021), while the GRDP per capita stood at VND141.8 million (up 10.6% compared to 2021).

At the meeting, representatives of leaders, reporters and editors of a number of central and city press agencies expressed their impressions and excitement at the positive results that the city has achieved in 2022 in the context of many difficulties due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. They also proposed solutions to contribute to the construction of the capital as well as to ensure effective implementation of information and communication works about Hanoi in the coming time.

Chairman of the Vietnam Journalists Association Le Quoc Minh expressed his gratitude to the leaders of Hanoi, who, during the past time, have created favorable conditions for the operation of reporters of Nhan Dan Newspaper in particular as well as the central press agencies. Minh congratulated the impressive results that Hanoi achieved in 2022 in the context of difficult situation in the country and the world.

Minh hoped that the city would strengthen communication channels with press agencies in the coming time, including a new mindset in policy communication to better spread the city’s information to the public.

This is particularly important during the process of implementing major projects in Hanoi that require the consensus of the people, he said.

Speaking at the meeting, Secretary of the City Party Committee Dinh Tien Dung briefed the delegates on the city’s results of in socio-economic development efforts in 2022 and for 2023.

In particular, the Secretary of the City Party Committee said, one of the impressive highlights is that though in the two years of 2021 and 2022, Hanoi’s budget revenue was  not the highest in the country, but domestic revenue from production and business of the city is the highest, and this shows that the capital’s economy is on the right track for development.

“The city’s valuable experience is that in the face of difficult and challenging tasks, if we can mobilize the participation of the whole political system and the consensus of the people, we can successfully implement them. This is even more evident when the city has carried out the prevention and control of the Covid-19 pandemic for more than 2 years and recently was the site clearance process of Ring road No.4 – Hanoi Capital zone”, said Dung.

Talking about the project of Ring Road 4, the Secretary of the City Party Committee said that the task is very difficult, but the city is determined to complete the project with strong support of the people. Because this is a very important project not only for Hanoi, but also creates a driving force for the development of the whole capital region and the key Northern economic zone.

Emphasizing that 2023 – the pivotal year of the 5-year plan 2020-2025  with great significance for the socio-economic development of Hanoi, the Secretary of the City Party Committee said the city’s would continue to strive to complete all targets set for the year.

Dung noted Hanoi’s successes in last year was also thanks to the contribution of the press agencies, and expected them to play a more active role for the city’s development in the future.
