Hi-tech agriculture continued to develop

It is identified that hi-tech agriculture as the “key” in changing production practices, enhancing quality and solving the problem of output for agricultural products, aiming towards argricultural development in the direction modernity and sustainability, in recent years, Long An has adopted a large number of incentive policies to create favorable conditions for hi-tech farmers to grow crops and raise livestock.

The director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development – Nguyen Thanh Truyen, stated: “In 2021, the Agricultural sector advised the Provincial People’s Committee to issue and submit many plans, decisions and resolutions related to the implementation of the program of developing hi-tech agriculture in association with restructuring the agricultural sector in the period of 2021-2025, as proposed by the Provincial People’s Committee to the Provincial People’s Council in promulgating the resolution on policies giving support to the Agricultural Development Program of hi-tech agriculture in association with restructuring the agricultural sector from 2021 to 2025; the plan for implementing program over the period 2021-2025, etc.

In addition, the Department cooperated with the news agencies to promote propaganda about the Program of developing hi-tech agriculture; worked with local authorities to determine the specific area of each commune and hi-tech production area, define a map of hi-tech zones in the  period 2021-2025; transfer between science and technology, put mechanized farming into practice, etc. As a result, up to now, the areas of hi-tech farming for rice, vegetables, lemons, and shrimps have reached 6,640 hectares, 1,732 hectares, 524 hectares and 10 hectares respectively.

Can Giuoc district is the major locality in the implementation of hi-tech farming on vegetables. Accordingly, in 2021, the district created favorable conditions for farmers to access preferential policies from the hi-tech agricultural development program such as organizing three training courses on vegetables in the direction of VietGAP; demonstrating microorganic fertilizer models with new technology – Nano technology with five demonstration sites with the scale of 1,000 square meters per model, in which  100 percent of seeds and 30 percent of materials were provided; building five models of net house to grow vegetables with the scale of 1,000 square meters per model, supporting 40 percent of the cost of materials, etc. The total funding for the implementation of the district’s program of developing hi-tech agriculture on vegetables was nearly 930 million VND. Up to now, the district has had 1,135 hectares of hi-tech farming areas for vegetables.

Mr. Huynh Van Sang (from Phuoc Lam commune) shared: “In the past, I used traditional methods to grow two hectares of leafy green vegetables such as mustard greens, basils, corianders, etc. Through training courses, I have learned that hi-tech vegetable cultivation will create hi-quality products to meet the needs of consumers, and more importantly, this method helps to reduce input costs and increase profits. Since then, I have invested in greenhouses, applied automatic irrigation methods, limited fertilizers, pesticides, etc. Over the time of implementation, the profit the model brought was 1.5 times higher than that with traditional methods of growing vegetables”.

In 2021, Tan Thanh district planned to build 36 high-tech rice production models with an area of 1,800 hectares, each model ranged from 50 to 100 hectares. Each hamlet was supposed to build at least one pilot model for farmers to visit and share experiences. Mai Van On, the head of the Division of Agriculture and Rural Development of Tan Thanh District, said: “The purpose of building a hi-tech rice model is to help farmers to change their production practices such as applying the method of thin seedling combined with one-time burying fertilizer; applying sowing seeds which are all high quality rice varieties with the quantity ranging from 80 to 100 kilos per hectare; training and guiding production techniques in accordance with the practice “1 must, 6 decrease”; putting mechanization into production; collecting packaging and bottles of pesticides and putting them in the right place, etc. As a result, in 2021, the district implemented 37 hi-tech rice models with the area of over 2,000 hectares.

In the coming time, the Agricultural sector will continue to promote propaganda about the hi-tech agricultural development program associated with the restructuring of the agricultural sector in the period of 2021 – 2025; support the development of cooperatives and collaborative groups to improve their capacity to actively link output consumption, sign co-production contracts according to production chains with addresses and traceability; maintain and multiply the extent of enterprises participating in large fields in the form of co-production and consumption of agricultural products; deploy and build synchronous application models of mechanization, models of reducing the amount of inorganic fertilizers in production.

At the same time, the sector has consolidated 110 cooperatives, established 8 new cooperatives and 65 cooperative groups in hi-tech agricultural production areas; trained human resources for the development of hi-tech agriculture; continued to carry out trade promotion activities to introduce products of Long An province, promoted images of products, special products, typical products, OCOP products of the province; focused on integrating capital sources to speed up the construction progress of irrigation work being implemented in the districts to serve the hi-tech production areas./.
