“Inspiring Hanoi’s creativity” seminar opens

A seminar titled “Inspiring Hanoi’s Creativity” was held at the Centre for Art & Culture at No 22 Hang Buom Street, Hoan Kiem District, Hanoi, on December 25.

The event is as part of a series of activities that Hanoi’s Department of Culture and Sports held at the “Unleashing Creativity Week 2021”.

The seminar gathering the participation of cultural managers, policy makers and those working in the cultural and creative sectors is expected to contribute to enhancing Hanoi’s competitive position as the “Creative Kingdom” in Southeast Asia.

At the seminar, the participants discussed creative ways to promote creative industries and activities throughout Hanoi, as well as increase Hanoi’s competitiveness with respect to regional urban areas and regional cities.

Hanoi is home to 20 special national monuments, 1,163 national relics, and 1,441 city-level vestiges. The capital city has been known as home to many delicious dishes that became popular to international friends.

Additionally, the city has 1,350 traditional craft villages focusing on traditional crafts like lacquer, mosaic, embroidery, silk weaving, ceramics, bamboo and rattan weaving.

Since Hanoi joined the UNESCO Creative Cities Network in 2019, the city has focused on developing cultural and creative industry targeting sustainable development.

Speaking at the seminar, Pham Thi Thanh Huong, head of the UNESCO Office in Vietnam’s Cultural Department, said that heritage and human resources provide great potential for Hanoi to become the creative capital, not only for Vietnam but also within Southeast Asia.

Hanoi takes the lead in building a Creative City that will inspire other Vietnamese cities to tap into cultural resources for sustainable development, she stressed.

According to Huong, the city has taken actions to promote creative cultural activities, while facilitating the creative development of cultural and community art spaces by hosting street festivals, music festivals, and fashion events.

At the seminar, experts suggested that Hanoi should establish a favorable environment through appropriate policy mechanisms for creative activities to further thrive.
