Iraq condemns US air strikes on its militia

Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al Kadhimi on Monday condemned US attacks near the Syria-Iraq border, calling it a blatant violation of Iraqi sovereignty and national security. The US army launched airstrikes Monday morning against facilities used by Iran-backed militia groups in the Iraq-Syria border region. The Pentagon said President Joe Biden authorized the strikes in response to earlier attacks against US personnel and facilities in Iraq.

7 members of Iraq’s Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) were killed and others injured by the airstrikes. Some of the facilities were destroyed. The PMF said they will retaliate.
