Vietnam to apply electronic fishing dairy

Vietnam is piloting electronic records of traceability for fishing at sea in Khanh Hoa, Binh Dinh, and Phu Yen provinces. Nguyen Quang Hung, Deputy Director of the Directorate of Fisheries, said a software is applied and fishermen won’t have to take notes but press a button on a smartphone with the installed software. The app makes it more convenient for fishermen to log their catch.

In addition when entering the fishing port, all the fishing data will be quickly updated to local and central databases for control.

The traceability software will be applied to fishing activities nationwide over the next three years.

The traceability of fishery products is now compulsory  and one of the mandatory requirements to combat illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing (IUU fishing) of the European Union.

The application proves Vietnam’s efforts to remove the EC yellow card.
