70th anniversary of “Capital City Regiment Withdrawal” crossing Red River

Hanoi has hosted a ceremony to mark 70 years of the "Capital City Regiment Withdrawal" crossing the Red River.

On February 17, 1947, the regiment received an order to withdraw from Hanoi after successfully holding back French troops in the capital city, enabling the Party Central Committee and President Ho Chi Minh to safely move to Viet Bac military zone to continue leading the national resistance war.

The successful withdrawal helped protect the army's full strength, contibuting to the liberation of Hanoi 7 years later on October 10, 1954.
