Canada urged to diversify investments in Vietnam

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh has suggested that Canada diversify investments in Vietnam and continue its development support for the country.

At a reception in Hanoi on Thursday for Canada's Ambassador to Vietnam Deborah Anne Paul, Mr. Minh underlined strong bilateral defense relations and said peace-keeping training cooperation should be expanded.

Mr. Minh said Vietnam welcomes Canada's growing cooperation with Asia-Pacific and ASEAN. He urged the two nations to collaborate in multilateral forums and mechanisms like the UN, APEC, and CPTPP.

Deputy PM Minh praised Canada's support of Vietnam's candidacy for non-permanent membership on the National Security Council for the 2020-2021 term and its upcoming chairmanship of ASEAN in 2020.

Ms. Paul said she is honored to be Canada's Ambassador to Vietnam and glad for Canada and Vietnam's achievements over the years. She said Canada wants to increase cooperation with Vietnam in all areas, especially when Vietnam assumes the ASEAN chairmanship in 2020.
