Ensuring transparency in compensation for sea environmental pollution

On Monday, Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh visited local people in Loc Ha district, Ha Tinh province and inspected the compensation for the locals following the sea environmental pollution incident caused by Ha Tinh Formosa Company of Taiwan, China.

Speaking to Ha Tinh authorities, the Deputy Prime Minister stressed the importance of ensuring transparency and appropriate levels of compensation: "In addition to cash compensation of Formosa, the government has implementing several programs to help the fishermen sustain their fishing, develop fishing services, and find new jobs. While going offshore fishing, our fishermen need to contribute to defending national maritime sovereignty".

So far, the Ha Tinh Provincial People's Committee has approved compensations worth nearly 1.2 billion VND for fishermen in Thinh Loc and Thach My communes, which were seriously affected by the sea environmental pollution in central Vietnam.
