According to the Ho Chi Minh City Bureau of Statistics, in the first five months of 2021, there were more than 1.34 billion USD of foreign direct investment ( FDI ) invested in the city, including newly registered capital, adjusted and the value of capital contribution and share purchase by foreign investors, decreased by 16.52% over the same period last year.
Specifically, in 5 months, there were 187 projects granted with registered capital of 378.8 million USD, down 58.4% in number of licenses and up 52.3% in capital over the same period last year.
Registered capital is concentrated mainly in 2 industries: commerce and real estate business, accounting for more than 95% of the total newly issued capital; in which the commercial sector has 86 projects, with a capital of 236.3 million USD, accounting for 62.4% of the total newly granted capital and the real estate industry has 5 projects, with the capital reaching 125.8 million USD (accounting for 33 2%).
Regarding adjustment of investment capital, there were 42 projects with an additional capital of more than USD 416 million, a decrease of 47.5% in the number of licenses and an increase of 3 times in capital compared to the same period last year. In which, there are 7 projects in the processing and manufacturing industry with registered capital of 267.4 million USD.
Next is professional activities, science and technology with 11 projects, capital increase is 85.5 million USD; 15 commercial projects, adjusted registered capital is 32.9 million USD. Countries with highly adjusted capital are Japan with USD 270 million; Singapore 72.4 million USD; UK 27 million USD…
In the first 5 months of 2021, Ho Chi Minh City also approved for capital contribution and share purchase by foreign investors in 726 cases with a total capital of 542.7 million USD, down 55.9% in capital. compared to the same period.
Regarding domestic investment attraction, as of May 15, the city has licensed 14,543 enterprises with a total registered capital of 245,597 billion dong. Compared to the same period last year, the number of licenses increased by 5.8% and capital increased by 36.6%.
The average registered capital of a newly established enterprise reached VND 16.9 billion, up 29.1% over the same period last year.
