Hoi An hosts 2017 International Silk-Brocade Festival

Artisans from Vietnam and 7 other Asian countries are showcasing their products at the 2017 International Silk-Brocade Festival which opened on Monday as part of the sixth Quang Nam Heritage Festival.

Le Thai Vu, Deputy Head of the Festival's Organizing Board, said this is the third time the festival has been held in the Hoi An silk village to honor the traditional craft and seek output for Vietnamese silk.

The Hoi An silk village is like a living museum as it represents the development of not only Hoi An's silk weaving but also of a flourishing traditional handicraft of the Champa people. Hoi An joined the Asia Silk Association in 2012 and became a member of the World Silk Association in 2014, Vu said.

Ho Viet Toan from Toan Thinh Silk company which provided material to make clothes for world leaders attending the 5th Asia-Europe Meeting in 2004 and the APEC summit in 2006, said: We want to restore the chiffon cloth as it has unique characteristics. We produce traditional materials using advanced techniques to create a new product while still maintaining its nature.
