In 2018, the national agriculture and rural development achieved high results
The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) on January 3rd 2019 organized the online conference reviewing the tasks in 2018 and deploying implement plan in 2019. Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc attended and chaired the conference.
According to MARD's report presented at the conference, in 2018 the national agriculture and rural development achieved high results that were higher than the plan and higher than the previous year.
Compared to 2017, the growth rate of agriculture, forestry and fisheries was 3.76%, reaching the highest level in the last 7 years. Production value of the whole industry increased by 3.86%, and export turnover reached 40.02 billion USD.
With the above outstanding results, according to MARD in 2018, the agricultural production structure continues to be adjusted appropriately, more effectively and linked to market demand.
Many models of vegetable, flower and fruit production with high technology and organic results have brought about 5 times higher income than rice production.
Some livestock products have initially been exported such as main frozen pork to Myanmar, chicken meat to Japan.
The market for agricultural products has been expanded, exports reached a new record, with total export turnover estimated at over US $ 40 billion, up 9.6% compared to 2017.
In 2018, there was also an increase in the organization of chain link production models, with 2,200 newly established agricultural enterprises, an increase of 12.3% compared to 2017, bringing the total of existing agricultural business of the whole country up to over 9,200 enterprises, which are the core in the agricultural value chain.
In the field of new rural construction, the country now has nearly 3,800 communes and 61 district-level units meeting new rural standards, increasing 718 communes and 18 districts compared to 2017.
In addition to outstanding results, the agricultural and rural sector still has limitations, weaknesses and many challenges that need to focus on overcoming in the coming time.
In 2019, it is targeted that industry growth rate will be about 3%; production value will reach 3.05-3.25%; export turnover is about 42 - 43 billion USD; 48-50% of communes and 70 units at district level meet new rural standards; forest coverage rate reach 41.85%.
In order to achieve the above objectives, the main tasks and focal points are given:
To continually restructure the industry and boost production, processing and market development of agricultural products, promoting sustainable growth;
To review and evaluate advantages and potentials
To build and develop product structure according to 3 axes of products to meet market demand and adapt to climate change and local specialties to have appropriate steering solutions;
To strongly develop consumption markets both domestically and for export.
