Italy to host 2026 Winter Olympics and Paralympics

The 2026 Winter Olympics and Paralympics will be held in Italy. The International Olympic Committee voted Monday to accept the joint bid by Milan and Cortina d'Ampezzo over the runner-up, Stockholm, Sweden.

Italy hosted the Winter Olympics in 1956, Summer Olympics in 1960, and Winter Olympics in 2006. Milan-Cortina won 47 of the Committee votes cast.

Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte on Monday hailed the vote as a victory for all of Italy. He wrote on Twitter that an entire country that worked together united and compact with the ambition of achieving and offering the world a memorable sporting event. The event will run from February 6-22, 2026.
