Pakistani ruling party appoint new Prime Minister

The ruling party, Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N), has appointed Shahbaz Sharif, governor of Punjab state, as the new Prime Minister to replace Nawaz Sharif and Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, former Petroleum Minister, to serve as interim prime minister while Shahbaz Sharif contests a by-election.

Nawaz Sharif resigned on Saturday after a court ruling disqualified him from office for corruption charges. The court has requested the National Anti-corruption Agency to investigate his corruption claims.
