President Tran Dai Quang receives foreign ambassadors

President Tran Dai Quang received the Spanish and Yemeni Ambassadors who submitted their credentials in Hanoi on Thursday.

At a reception for Spanish Ambassador Jesus Figa Lopez Palop, President Quang underscored the need for both countries to increase the exchange of delegations at all levels and promote economic cooperation in renewable energy, infrastructure construction, tourism, and high-tech eco-agriculture.

President Quang urged both sides to work closely with each other on activities to mark the 40th anniversary of diplomatic ties and at international forums.

He said he hopes Spain will support Vietnam for the position of non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the 2020-2021 period and Ambassador Pham Sanh Chau's candidacy for UNESCO General Director in the 2017-2021 period.

While talking with Yemeni Ambassador Adel Mohamed Ali Ba Hamid, President Quang said Vietnam hopes the situation in Yemen will soon stabilize and that warring parties will resolve their conflicts through negotiations.

Mr. Quang said Vietnam attaches importance to boosting multi-faceted cooperation with Yemen and said he hopes relations between the two countries will continue to grow.

On Wednesday, President Quang received the outgoing Finnish and Greek Ambassadors, whose terms in Vietnam have come to an end.

Mr. Quang praised Finnish Ambassador Ilkka-Pekka Simila's proposal to establish a bilateral strategic partnership in education, renovation, IT, communications, water management, forestry, and clean technology. He said the recommendation is feasible because Vietnam and Finland enjoy a flexible and effective relationship.

Speaking highly of contributions by Greek Ambassador Nikos Kanellos during his tenure in Vietnam, President Quang said he believes Ambassador Kanellos will continue to be a close friend of Vietnam and a bridge to enhance the friendship and multi-faceted cooperation between the two nations.

President Quang asked Greece to support the early signing and approval of the Vietnam-EU Free Trade Agreement through which both countries can extend cooperation in marine economy, ship building, agriculture, and tourism.
