Prime Minister emphasizes economy-culture harmony

Chairing the regular government meeting for May in Hanoi on Friday, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc said the National Assembly gave positive comments on government-led implementation of socio-economic tasks in 2018 and the first months of 2019.

But Mr. Phuc called for more efforts to achieve sustainable development: National Assembly deputies have raised the issue of sustainable development in Vietnam, the harmonization of economy and culture. If we only concentrate on economy and ignore culture, the economy will be hampered by culture. It is the problems of morality, quality, living environment, and other social relations.

Prime Minster Phuc praised Vietnam's hosting of the UN Vesak Day 2019 in early May, which was attended by 20,000 international delegates, including heads of state, and Buddhist followers. He applauded foreign investment attraction, licensing of new businesses, and foreign affairs for achieving good results. Mr. Phuc said international organizations have optimistic projections of Vietnam's economy. Standard Chartered predicted Vietnam to be among the 7 economies with a growth rate of 7% by 2030. Fitch, a global credit rating organization, raised Vietnam's economic outlook from stable to positive.

Prime Minister Phuc called on ministries and sectors to make thorough assessment of Vietnamese and global situations for decision making the second half of this year.
