Prime Minister urges Ho Chi Minh city to bounce back from slow growth

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc on Friday stressed the importance of Ho Chi Minh city to Vietnam, saying the city contributes from 20 to 22% of the national GDP, 25% of the national budget, 33% of services, and 18.4% of industry-construction.

At an online meeting with the municipal leaders, Prime Minister  Phuc said: “Ho Chi Minh city reported that its growth rate in the first quarter was only 0.42% higher than in the same period last year. But according to the latest data of the General Statistics Office, the city grew 1.03%. So Vietnam’s economy in the first quarter might grow higher than the 3.82% rate reported earlier. This is good news for the national economy as the world is facing challenges.”

The Prime Minister urged the city to bounce back in the remaining 3 quarters to deserve its potential and advantages. He called on the municipal business community to join hands to overcome difficulties. Mr. Phuc said every citizen and company must be a soldier to undergo trial of their will power and wisdom in Vietnam’s most dynamic and most innovative center.
