Russia, China urge Iran to restrain nuclear program

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Tuesday urged Iran not to give in to emotions and abide by its nuclear agreements, a day after Tehran said it had breached limits set in the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

Lavrov said Russia would do everything it can to preserve the Iran nuclear accord.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Geng Shuang said China regrets Iran's decision to step back from the nuclear deal and blames US President Donald Trump's policy of "maximum pressure for Iran's retaliatory decision. Shuang called for restraint and honoring the JCPOA to avoid further escalation.
