Syrian forces gain control of 2,000 sq km of desert areas

Syrian forces and allied fighters gained control over the areas between the city of Al Sukhnah and Al Shear in the remote eastern countryside of Homs Province in central Syria on Saturday.

It is the latest progress in a string of operations the Syrian army and allied fighters have launched in the Syrian desert. According to the Syrian Observatory For Human Rights, military forces are surrounding another neighboring area near Hama, the last area left controlled by ISIS.

On Thursday, the Syrian army laid full siege on ISIS in the desert after having liberated Al-Sukhnah city in northwestern Homs province.
