UN postpones Syrian talks

The next round of peace talks on Syria, backed by United Nations, have been scheduled for February 20th, instead of February 8th as the previous plan.

The UN envoy for Syria, Staffan de Mistura, said on Tuesday that he had decided to delay the UN-sponsored talks in order to take advantage of the results, which came out of a negotiations held earlier this week in Kazakhstan between the Syrian government and opposition groups, Turkey, Russia, and Iran. The three participating countries agreed to monitor the implementation of a partial ceasefire in Syria, towards a political solution to the conflict.

The UN envoy said a solid ceasefire will help to achieve concrete results in the next Syrian peace talks in Geneve.
