UN Security Council discusses North Korea’s missile tests

At the request of the US, the UK, and France, the UN Security Council held an emergency closed meeting on Thursday to discuss North Korea’s recent missile tests. North Korean media said President Kim Jong-un has rejected the US’s call for talks. According to Rodong Sinmun, the official newspaper of the Central Committee of North Korea’s Workers’ Party, President Kim said the US policy towards North Korea remains unchanged, so the US’s request for talks serves no purpose. Mr. Kim said that to promote peace, the stalled communication lines with South Korea will be restored in early October.
