US to withdraw from nuclear deal with Russia

The US will withdraw from a landmark nuclear weapons treaty with Russia, President Donald Trump has confirmed, saying that Russia had "violated" the 1987 Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces (INF) treaty.

Trump made the comments as his National Security Adviser John Bolton was in Moscow to meet with Russia's Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, ahead of what is expected to be a second summit between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, later this year.

A Russian foreign ministry source said the US move was motivated by a "dream of a unipolar world" where it is the only global superpower, which is not likely to happen.
